Import your first dataset
Import data from a supported file, understand how IMD detects field types, and handle import failures.
Use the import action to bring in a CSV, Excel file, or another supported tabular file. After import, the table appears in the workspace so you can inspect rows and fields.
Importing should not be treated as final cleaning. First check field types, missing values, and visible anomalies so you know what you are asking IMD or AI to help with.

Importing should not be treated as final cleaning. First check field types, missing values, and visible anomalies so you know what you are asking IMD or AI to help with.
Supported formats
IMD supports common tabular formats including CSV, Excel (.xlsx, .xls), and other formats shown in the import dialog.
If a file format is not supported, try exporting it to CSV from the original application before importing.
Field type detection
IMD automatically detects field types such as text, number, date, boolean, and enum based on the data values in each column.
Correct type interpretation matters because summaries, charts, cleaning suggestions, and AI context all depend on fields being understood correctly.
Import fails
Check whether the file format is supported and whether the file opens in another tool. Corrupt or unusual spreadsheets may need to be exported to CSV first.
If import succeeds but the table looks wrong, inspect delimiters, headers, encoding, and whether the first row contains field names.
